About Doug
Cr Doug Hall.
I'm Doug Hall, a Dunedin City Councillor and independent local representative. I live and work in Dunedin, and my background is in practical problem-solving, small business, technology, systems, and working directly with people when things are not working as they should.
My approach
I try to bring a practical, plain-English approach to Council: reading the papers, asking direct questions, looking for the real-world effect of decisions, being honest about trade-offs, taking rates and affordability seriously, and respecting residents who take the time to engage.
What I value
- Practical decisions based on evidence, cost, risk, community impact, and long-term consequences.
- Transparency about what is being decided and why.
- Local voice from more than just the loudest voices.
- Accountability for spending and outcomes.
- Long-term thinking that does not simply hand bigger bills to the future.
How I work
I prefer clear questions, visible reasoning, and practical follow-through. When residents raise issues, I am interested in the facts, the timeline, who has already been contacted, and what would make a reasonable outcome.
Independence
Being independent matters to me because local government decisions should be judged on evidence, cost, fairness, risk, and community impact rather than party lines or slogans.
